In 1992, the bicentenary of the birth of Annabella Noel Byron, this book makes a sympathetic reassessment of this misunderstood and much-maligned woman, refuting the unfavourable contemporary judgements made about her and revealing instead the many benevolent causes she supported, including the setting up of schools, the abolition of slavery and the purchase of a house for the re-education of "fallen women".
