Description
This is an account of Charles' travels in France between June 1994 and July 2000. During
that time as well as visiting Paris on several occasions including using it as a base, he also visited
Boulogne, Rouen, Reims, Bayeux, Bourges, Chartres, Troyes, Amiens, Tours, Dijon, Arles,
Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, Nimes, Marseille, Bordeaux, Limoges, Periguex and La Rochelle. The
book though is much more than the places that he visited. It describes his experience being
in Paris at the 50th anniversary of the Normandy Landings and seeing the then President of
American, President Clinton, travelling from the Elysees Palace to the American Embassy. Of
visiting Boulogne when it was still possible to do a day trip there. Of seeing not only the famous
Bayeux Tapestry, but also Bayeaux Commonwealth War Cemetery. The joy of visiting a champagne
warehouse in Rheims and tasting champagne made for the famous Maxim's Restaurant in Paris.
Of being able to experience Paris' answer to the London Eye - the Grand Roue de Paris as well
as the Bordeaux Wine Fete of 2000 and Bordeaux's celebrations when France won the European
Cup that year. On the negative side he got caught up in one of France's strikes - or rather when
the train guards would only work express trains. The book should appeal to anyone who either
loves or is interested in France.
