Description
The first edition of the book was based on the content of four courses on bioelectronics, biosensing, instrumentation and microfluidics taught by RP and SS. Since 2012 the courses have been expanded and refined in content, as well as being taught to students from a wider range of backgrounds. While initially developed for taught postgraduate students on a Bioelectronics MSc programme, the courses are now given to around 60 students each year, from five different undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. This has given an insight into the background information on biochemistry, thermodynamics and quantum theory, that students need when moving into this academic field. In addition, the courses have tried to keep up with the state of the art in this fast-moving field, incorporating new research innovation and commercial developments each year. A new edition would, therefore, aim to improve the pedagogical usefulness of the textbook as well as reflecting the latest research. This would hopefully increase the uptake of other institutions choosing to use this book in developing their own courses. With this in mind, the new edition will include expanded problem sets and other teaching materials, supplied online.
