Description
We're running now, along the spine of the world, and behind us, just below, half the land is sliding away to nowhere.
Jelly is NOT looking forward to the first school trip at her new school, since her best friend ditched her and is determined to make Jelly miserable. Lincoln however can't wait - he used to visit the hills with his brothers and he's excited to be back.
But what neither of them expected was for the extreme weather to cause the reservoirs to burst, and for the area to be flooded. Or to be left behind when the rest of their group is evacuated. As rain pours down and the water rises, Jelly and Lincoln have to put aside their fears to outrun the storm.
A gripping and thought-provoking new book from the author of WHERE THE WORLD TURNS WILD, perfect for fans of THE EXPLORER, WILDLANDS, FOXLIGHT and Hannah Gold.

Reviews / Votes
A gripping, page-turning adventure packed with heart-stopping action and peril. A reminder of the power of nature and the power within us to make a difference. * Hannah Gold, author of The Last Bear * So pacy and gripping. I read it like the wind and I say that as a slow reader. Masterful plotting and characterisation, perfectly blending interpersonal emotional horrors and the urgency of emotional disaster. Nicola handles the wider question of climate change really sensitively, not placing too much responsibility on the young reader while giving them a sense that there ARE things they can do. Magnificent! * Louie Stowell, author of Loki: A Bad God's Guide to Being Good * An unputdownable, wild, soggy, brilliant adventure. * Hilary McKay, author of The Skylark's War * A brilliant, moving and totally believable tale of friendship and survival. A gripping call to protect and respect the natural world. * Judith Eagle, author of The Blitz Sisters * Penfold deftly captures both the beauty of nature and its potential for destruction in this heartwarming tale of friendship and bravery, while quietly warning of the realities of climate change. * Joseph Elliott, author of the Shadow Skye series * An extraordinary book ... it's gripping, heartfelt and pulse-racingly exciting. I'll be thinking about this story for a long long time. * Sophie Kirtley, author of The Wild Way Home * Showcases the power and complexity of nature - and of people, too! For all its brevity, this is a novel brimming with peril, thrills and warmth. * Darren Simpson, author of Scavengers * Highly relatable characters and strong themes of family, friendship and storytelling making this climate-change adventure emotionally moving as well as utterly gripping. * Kirsty Applebaum, author of the The Strange Disappearance of Imogen Good * A gripping, challenging, heart-in-mouth exploration of the power of nature and our own relevant insignificance in the face of disaster - but also, of course, a heart-cry to the best within us, a reminder that we can all help (no matter how little we are), and a deeply moving reminder of what's important. * Sinead O'Hart, author of The Time Tider * Nicola takes climate issues and breathes them to life, putting us in the picture, making us see threats close up and forcing us to see the impacts. An exciting survival adventure with a great cast and an urgent message. * Rachel Delahaye, author of Day of the Whale * Authentic, heartfelt, great pace and wonderful writing. I felt immersed in the adventure. Totally gripping! * Julie Pike, author of Flame Chasers * A gripping survival story that is quite simply impossible to put down. The tension rises as the power of nature - unleashed by climate change - bears down with terrifying force and drives the story forward at a breathless pace. The beautiful, sparse prose elevates the adventure, capturing both the awe and the danger of the natural world. Amid the suspense and high stakes, the novel is full of heart, courage and friendship. A strong and timely reminder of why we must protect out natural world, this is an unforgettable read that lingers long after the final page. * H. S. Norup, author of The Changeling Child * A thrilling, fast-paced adventure which was impossible to put down. Beautiful storytelling meets exquisite characterisation. Nicola has once again created an unforgettable tale that reminds the reader of the fragility of our world. I absolutely loved it. * Jo Clarke, author of The Travelling School Mysteries * Excellent action/adventure with themes of climate change and coping with bullying. * Sharon Gosling, author of The House of Hidden Wonders * I've always loved Nicola's books and every book is a treat. This one is her most heart-stopping yet, and I read the last quarter on the edge of my seat. It was even more gripping as a read to think that such events might increasingly become our reality, which Nicola shows us through a page-turning escape from the elements. She is a master of the eco-adventure novel! * Nizrana Farook, author of The Girl Who Stole An Elephant *More details
