Summer, 1978. Jake Horn came to Kennebunkport for a weekend getaway with his daughter-not to stumble over a body on the beach.

When the police arrest the local restaurant owner's brother within hours of finding the victim, it looks like an open-and-shut case. His truck. Her body. Except the truck was reported stolen the night before, and the victim's boyfriend has mysteriously disappeared.

Jake's an hour and a half from home with a business to run and a daughter heading back to college. He's got no reason to get involved-until a desperate phone call makes it personal.

In a beach town where everyone knows everyone's secrets, the story the cops are telling seems a little too neat.

But when Jake starts asking questions, he finds out the hard way that some prefer the truth stay buried in the sand. And the deeper he digs into Casey Jilson's death, the more dangerous it gets.
