Description
In recent years, the demand for constructing 3-D models of various objects has been steadily growing due to its wide range applications. Images from a single source provide less information in the output model. Therefore, there is a pressing need to go for multimodal image fusion producing a complete 3-D model of the object. Range and intensity images are complementary in nature. Fusion of these two images provides one composite image with more accurate and reliable information, which is not possible with either source in isolation. This book is a step towards feature level fusion of range and intensity image data of an object. The work is divided mainly into three parts. Initially, a 3-D model of the object is reconstructed from the acquired range images. Then, structural features are extracted from the 3-D model and intensity image of the object. Finally, two novel techniques have been introduced for the fusion of extracted features from both the modalities. The book will, therefore, be of importance to academics, researchers and practitioners in a wide range of disciplines that require 3-D reconstruction as well as image fusion.
