Description
Tom Patey, one of Scotland's best-known climbers, was killed on May 25th, 1970, while abseiling from a sea-stack off the northern Scottish coast. His death marked the loss of not only one of Scotland's greatest climbers but also of a man whose infectious charm and talents as a writer were to be sorely missed.
He was in the process of editing the articles that appear in this book and these, along with his much sough-after poems, were published soon after. One Man's Mountain is a fitting tribute to one of the most singular and admired climbers that Britain has produced.

Reviews / Votes
The fierce zest he felt in rock and ice is seasoned with a nice dry humour, and a talent for throwaway lines quite in the Mummery tradition * * TLS * * Patey's company is the most enjoyable in the whole canon of climbing writing...incomparable -- Jim PerrinMore details

Tom Patey (1932-1970) was, at the time of his death, the local GP in Ullapool, a fishing port in north-west Scotland near some of the most beautiful mountains in the world. It was his territory. But it is for his unique character that Tom Patey is still so widely remembered, and missed. No other man has combined his talents as a serious mountaineer, a ribald entertainer, a maker of ballads and a writer of prose and verse.
Chris Bonington needs no introduction. A close friend of Patey's, he climbed with him on many occasions and his introduction provides a moving tribute to him.
