Description
Orthognathic surgery, combined with orthodontic treatment, is a common approach to correcting skeletal malocclusions. Recently, aligners have emerged as an alternative to fixed orthodontics in conjunction with orthognathic surgery. This systematic review aims to compare the efficacy of orthognathic surgery combined with aligners versus orthognathic surgery combined with fixed orthodontics in patients with skeletal malocclusion.Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted across major electronic databases for studies meeting predefined inclusion criteria. Randomized controlled trials, observational studies, case reports, systematic reviews and review article comparing outcomes between orthognathic surgery with aligners and orthognathic surgery with fixed orthodontics were included. Data regarding skeletal and dental changes, occlusal improvements, and patient satisfaction, quality of life, stability after surgery were extracted and synthesized.Results: A total of 242 articles were found using this search strategy. 145 of the 242 articles were duplicates. After reviewing the abstracts and titles, and full text not available 63 articles were eliminated.
