Description
'I loved this book - it had me laughing and crying in equal measure. Tony magnificently captures the incredibly special bond we all have with our dogs' - Will Young
'Beautifully written. Tender, modest and profound' - Stephen Grosz
'Heartbreakingly moving. Anyone who's known the agony and ecstasy of falling in love with an animal, of seeing them grow from pet to family member and experienced that unique and irreplaceable bond will adore this book' - Jane Fallon
-----
A heart-warming and moving memoir for dog lovers everywhere from one of Britain's best-loved writers and journalists.
"Nobody will ever love you like a dog. Nobody will ever be as consistently happy to see you. Nobody will ever make you so glad to be alive"
It all started when nine-year-old Jasmine wanted a dog and her parents, Tony and Yuriko, tried to fob her off with a rabbit. In the end, along came Stan, a bandy-legged bundle of joy, loyalty and bright red fur. And nothing like a rabbit. Set against the backdrop of Tony's life in Hampstead and their daily walks across the Heath, with its rolling hills, ponds and cast of star-studded, dog-walking neighbours - this is a poignant, funny and deeply human memoir about a special relationship with a four-legged friend.
Full of Tony's reliably moving, wise and heartfelt writing, Man & Dog: A Love Story captures the ineffable bond between a man and his dog.

Reviews / Votes
I loved this book - it had me laughing and crying in equal measure. Tony magnificently captures the incredibly special bond we all have with our dogs, me included. -- Will Young A wonderful, beautifully written book. Tender, modest and profound. -- Stephen Grosz A wonderful book about love, friendship and loyalty. As my late, great manager John Ferriter said: "Be the person your dog thinks you are." You are 100% who Stan thought you were, Tony Parsons. Loved it. What a wonderful read, and wonderful dog. -- Piers Morgan I can't remember the last time I cried at the end of a book. Seriously great. -- Dylan Jones Heartbreakingly moving. Anyone who's known the agony and ecstasy of falling in love with an animal, of seeing them grow from pet to family member and experienced that unique and irreplaceable bond will adore this book. -- Jane Fallon A beautifully written story about love, loss and the extraordinary bond between a man and his dog. Not just for dog lovers, this book is for anyone who has ever loved - and had to let go. Right, I am off to hug a Labrador. -- Joanna Wallace, author Brilliant! Loved it. Can relate to so much. Dogs really open up a door to the natural world. -- Jan Gradvall, author Absolutely adored it! I could not love this book any more than I do. A must-read for any devoted dog parent, and for anyone who knows that dogs are proper family. -- Sophie Hannah, author I just LOVED it. Such a delight and so enjoyable to read. Full of happy moments, and so much that resonates with me. It's an incredible book. -- Alan Edwards, The Outside Organisation What a beautiful book - truly a love story as advertised. I can't recommend it enough. Parsons writes from the soul - love, grief, friendship, location - he gets it and writes about it in a way that is so authentic, so unfiltered and human. His depiction of understated emotion is so relatable that the reader feels seen. -- Jo Mackenzie Green, author The Life She MadeMore details
