Das vorliegende Buch beschäftigt sich mit der Frage des messbaren Zusammenhangs zwischen Sprachproduktion und Sprachwahrnehmung am Beispiel der Phänomene intrinsische Grundfrequenz und intrinsische Tonhöhe. Dazu werden zwei Hauptthemen behandelt, einerseits die Unterschiede zwischen der Gespanntheitsopposition im Deutschen und andererseits zwischen verschiedenen Sprachfamilien im Generellen. Zu diesem Vergleich unterschiedlicher Sprachfamilien wurden in den Sprachwahrnehmungskapiteln die durchgeführten Experimente - mit identischer Methodik - einerseits mit deutschen Versuchspersonen (germanische Sprachen), und andererseits mit spanischen, italienischen und portugiesischen Hörern (romanische Sprachen) durchgeführt.
In den Kapiteln zur Sprachproduktion wird für den Vergleich des zeitdynamischen Verhaltens von gespannten und ungespannten Vokalen das Verfahren der functional data analysis in die phonetische Analyse eingeführt. Dieses gestattet es, die subtilen dynamischen Unterschiede herauszuarbeiten und gleichzeitig die jeweils relevanten Bereiche durch Varianzreduktion darzustellen.
This book examines whether there is an interaction between speech production and speech perception with respect to Intrinsic Fundamental Frequency (production) and Intrinsic Pitch (perception). Covered main topics are (1) the comparison of the tenseness difference for German vowels and (2) similarities and differences between Germanic and Romance languages. With the aim to compare the two language families, the speech perception chapters present methodologically identical experiments conducted for all languages: with German subjects on the one hand and with Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian subjects on the other hand, all recorded in their native countries.
In the speech production chapters, the statistical method of functional data analysis is introduced to phonetic analyses, with the aim to examine the important time-dynamic differences when comparing German tense and lax vowels. This allows the examination of the subtle dynamic differences by simultaneously reducing the data variance.
