Math Behind the Art

Math Behind the Art: Looking, Wondering, and Discovering Geometry invites children ages 6-8 to explore mathematics through abstract art, careful observation, and open¿ended questioning. Each spread pairs a full¿page artwork with prompts such as What do you see? and What do you wonder?, followed by a brief mathematical idea. Rather than presenting rules or procedures, the book encourages students to slow down, look closely, share ideas, and discover geometric concepts through visual thinking. Topics such as shape, pattern, symmetry, balance, movement, and visual illusion emerge naturally through conversation and reflection. Created by a mathematics educator and artist, Math Behind the Art supports inquiry¿based learning in classrooms, libraries, museums, and homes.
