Internet, Networking and the Public Library

Computer networks can now be found in most public libraries as part of a geographically dispersed library management system or in the form of the Internet. There are currently many projects taking place in the UK investigating the different ways in which public libraries can use networking and the Internet. This collection brings together contributions from leading figures in the public library and research fields. The results and findings of networking projects are analyzed and general discussion is offered of some of the issues raised when networking is implemented in public libraries. Topics covered include public library networking in the UK and USA, the potential of networking in mobile library services, the impact of networking on a videotext/community information system, changed access to the Internet and networking in rural areas.
