It will inspire you to reach and teach all of your students. -- Brenda Lakin, Professor of Teacher Education The interactive format and real-life examples are perfect for training and developing culturally sensitive, effective teachers. This book will have a profound effect on not only the participants but also on those who provide the leadership. -- Mary H. Lewis, Director "Culturally Proficient Instruction makes a unique contribution to the field of human relations training and equity-based education. In addition to being serious, thoughtful, and provocative, this new work is very user friendly and practical." -- Stephanie Graham, Consultant "A must read book for educators at all levels! Culturally Proficient Instruction provides invaluable information and self-reflective interactive exercises for BOTH the private and public sectors in which teaching is part of EVERYONE's job description." -- Kaycee Hale, Executive Director "I wish I'd had this helpful, practical book when I became a trainer and facilitator some 15 years ago. It would have saved me a lot of time, energy, and frustration! Culturally Proficient Instruction should be an essential text in every trainer's library today." -- B. J. Gallagher Hateley "Excellent materials written in layman's terminology. As a cultural competency educator, I am ecstatic to finally have a toll to help my organization to become culturally proficient." -- Angeline McGill King, CORE Values Coordinator "Culturally Proficient Insruction provides teachers and trainers everywhere with inspiring as well as practical tools to help their students as well as themselves." -- Doug Kruschke, President "Culturally Proficient Instruction can help us train ourselves, our schools, our corporations, and our country to work with our diversity rather than against it. And it doesn't just tell us to, it tells us how." -- Franz Metcalf, Author "Culturally Proficient Instruction is a book for all of us who have ever wondered what it would take to make school a place where all students flourish. A must-read for all who wish to harness the power of difference." -- Patricia Maritnez-Miller, Director of Faculty "This book elicits discussions, descriptions, questioning, and responses that enable educators to move out of cultural destructiveness." -- Sharon Rogers, Faculty Associate "The Cultural Proficiency team provides yet another important tool for instructors. The vignettes enable us to 'walk with' others on this lonely and bumpy road to proficiency, while the reflections, prompts, and activities invite us to 'go deeper' in self-examination." -- Glenn E. Singleton, President "The poignant stories in this book will seep into the critical consciousness of readers and guide them to transform their teaching practices to be culturally proficient." -- Susan Taira, Co-Dean "Culturally Proficient Instruction has been invaluable in guiding my practice as a management consultant, trainer, mediator, and business owner. The principals, strategies, vignettes, and reflections are practical, accessible, and thought-provoking. This book is a rare find." -- Adena S. Wright, PresidentMore details

Kikanza Nuri-Robins helps people to close the gap between what they say they are and what they actually do. Whether she is in a corporate boardroom, the fireside room of a retreat center, or a convention center auditorium, Kikanza uses her skills and insights to help people and organizations that are in transition - or ought to be. She shares her observations and recommendations with clarity and candor, while gently encouraging them to face the difficult situations that challenge their skill sets and their values. She leads people to this growing edge with unswerving focus, an understanding heart, and laughter that rises from the seat of her soul.
Since 1978, Kikanza has worked as an organizational development consultant in a variety of settings includ-ing education, health care, criminal justice, and religion, focusing on leadership development, change management, and cultural proficiency.
