Description
Ladders to Literacy is an innovative supplemental classroom curriculum that allows educators to address the needs of children who are at risk for reading failure - without giving up their current language programming. Included are more than 50 fun, skill-building activities to use with large groups of children. The activities are organized into three sections emphasizing print awareness, metalinguistic, and oral language skills - skills that strongly correlate to reading success. By selecting activities - activities that are appropriate for young children who are developing typically and those who have disabilities or special needs - from each section, teachers can focus on the areas in which their classes need the most work while ensuring that children get well-rounded, comprehensive instruction. The second edition will include approximately 10 new lessons and tips for teachers, as well as a new introductory chapter. Also new to this edition are a scope and sequence chart and a chart linking the activities to Head Start Recommended Outcomes.

The theoretical information in this book and the activities are invaluable.
