Statistics: A Newcomer's Introduction to the Subject

This text deals with statistics as a systematization of common sense. There is necessarily a mathematical content, but it is kept to a minimum and explained in simple terms. The book should be useful for those who have to read texts in which the data have been subjected to statistical analysis and who would like to understand more fully what it means. It should also meet the needs of those who are commencing a course on the subject and who have little prior knowledge. The subjects covered include among others - probability and variability, samples and population, the analysis of variance, testing a hypothesis, contrasts, distribution, contingency tables, correlation and regression.
