Theodor Noldeke (1836-1930) was a linguist, historian, biblical scholar, and Islamicist of the highest caliber. He taught at the universities of Gottingen, Kiel, and Strasbourg. Among his many publications are 'Mandaean Grammar', 'Sketches from Eastern History', 'The Iranian National Epic', 'Geschichte des Qorans', 'Die alttestamentliche Literatur', and 'Zur Grammatik des classischen Arabisch'.
