Description
For 40 years or more, the printed circuit has dominated the electronics industry. It forms the basis of virtually every electronic product, from the personal stereo to the fire control computer on board fighter aircraft. It is with this background in mind that the book tackles the subject in all its varied aspects from simple single-side boards with a few manually assembled components through to the multilayer surface mount technology on both sides of the board. Machinery used throughout assembly is described in detail with the variations to achieve 100% correct and complete assembly. The design influences and management input necessary throughout the process is discussed in depth. Those aspects of the manufacturing technology that are part of most assembly facilities on the fringe of the process are covered in some detail, such as adhesives, screen printing processes, vision control systems, precautions to be taken against static electricity damaging components, cleaning processes, rework, testing and inspection.
