This issue of "Surgical Oncology Clinics of North America" is an extensive review of the surgical management of endocrine malignancies. The articles in this issue discuss the current surgical approaches, the management controversies, and the emerging translational therapies utilized to treat these potentially difficult cancers. Individual articles focus on gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors, adrenal cortical cancer, pheochromocytoma, the presentation, diagnosis, and new lines of therapy for patients with parathyroid cancer, and the treatment of the various types of thyroid cancer including, papillary, follicular, Hurthle cell, medullary, and anaplastic thyroid cancer. In addition, the issue also includes sections on thyroid lymphoma and metastases to the thyroid gland. The role of radioactive iodine will also be highlighted in the treatment of well-differentiated thyroid cancer.
