Dr. Elizabeth Gackstetter Nichols is Professor of Spanish, Latin American and Cultural Studies at Drury University. A 2012 Fulbright Scholar, her research interests include gender, poetry, visual arts, pan-American beauty practices, and popular culture.
Nichols is the author, co-author and editor of books on Venezuela, Venezuelan literature and beauty practices, Latin American popular culture, World Beauty Practices and Cosplay, as well as the author of many articles and chapters in these areas. Her current work focusses on beauty work and popular culture, specifically in the connections between the historical figures of Frida Kahlo, Carmen Miranda and Evita PerĂ³n with more contemporary figures.
