Jane Newdick's Book of Herbs

This book offers recipes and projects based on garden herbs, together with accounts of their history and characteristics. The recipes range from Mediterranean-inspired soups, salads and breads, to cakes and ice-creams, as well as refreshing teas and rich liqueurs. Among the projects, the author demonstrates how to make herb-scented sachets, pot pourris and posies. She also includes display ideas for growing herbs indoors and out. On the subject of cosmetics, the reader will find instructions for producing aromatic bath oils and scrubs, colognes and fragances, cleansers, moisturizers and hair rinses. Advice is aimed at getting the best from herbs, in terms of flavour in cooking, colour in displays and long-lasting fragrance in cosmetics. The colour illustrations consist of location photography and watercolour "portraits" of every herb featured.
