Description
A new book by the acclaimed American artist Nan Goldin (b. 1953) featuring work that's a new departure, and never been published before.
Over the past five decades, the American photographer, filmmaker and activist Nan Goldin (b. 1953) has documented personal relationships, addiction and queer communities, forming an autobiography she calls "a record of my life that no one can revise". Her unflinching images have transformed photography by closing the distance between the observer and the observed, capturing the rawness of the artist's own life and that of her people. Comprising deeply intimate photographs and slideshows, her stories embrace the complexity of life, standing as universal tales of love and loss.
At the heart of this book is the new, previously unseen work You Never Did Anything Wrong (2026) where, for the first time, Goldin takes as her subject matter our relationship with nature and the animal world. Images from the work are accompanied by two newly commissioned essays on Goldin's art, and a new interview with Goldin by the American writer Thora Siemsen.
This timely publication is published to accompany the major exhibition Nan Goldin: You Never Did Anything Wrong at the Hayward Gallery, London, which opens on 24 November 2026.
