Description
This book covers many aspects of human and economic geography, including populations, industrial and agricultural development, settlement and urbanization and standards of living. Although the book is mainly concerned with the UK, some of the studies cover Europe, Brazil and India and some of them discuss global situations. The first sections of the book discuss population migration and urban settlement, including the control of urbanization. The discussion of population migration includes an examination of both rural-urban migration and urban-rural migration and the factors that effect the rate of these migrations. These factors, the development and location of industry and agriculture and the availability of work, are discussed in subsequent chapters dealing with agriculture policy and industrial development in Britain. The final section discusses the development of transport networks and the building of the Channel Tunnel.
