Historically, people with intellectual disabilities were often considered unable to take decisions for themselves. This is now changing, as a result of the normalization and rights movements, with men and women claiming the right to make their own decisions and professionals seeking to help them to do this. Decision-making and People with Intellectual Abilities is divided into two parts. Part One provides the theoretical background to decision-making in people with intellectual disabilities, while in Part Two contributors show how decision-making works in practice with plenty of examples and suggestions for best practice.
