Description
It is examined, to what extent active steering systems can be used to manipulate the inherent toe-angle properties. In a first step, the design space for the toe-angle properties is derived from a set of driving manoeuvres. This design space is then used as a refrence for the toe-angle compensation concept, which uses active steering systems to implement a compensation steering rack motion. The compromise between the two compensation terms of the wheels of an axle is thereby based on the load transfer ratio. In a second step, the chosen concept is evaluated with regards to its effectiveness of archieving the same vehilce dynamics as changing the physical implementation of the toe-angle properties would. The chosen concept is found to be effective for all types of cornering manoeuvres, while showing inherent limitations regarding the ability to manipulate the straight-ahead properties. In a third step, the resulting steering rack superposition motion is implemented for all three types of active steering systems, which allow this type of superposition.
