Description
In a mixed-method tradition that privileges the quantitative, leading qualitative researcher Janice Morse breaks new ground by arguing the importance of research designs for which the primary component is qualitative, and contains either a quantitative or a qualitative supplemental strategy. Using a variety of examples and visual prompts, Morse convincingly demonstrates that such designs allow novice researchers to obtain answers more quickly and with more certainty. Her book
provides clear and concise explanations making even complex research designs understandable to the beginning researcher;
argues for the importance of primary qualitative designs due to their theoretical strength;
stresses the importance of using goal-directed actions and analyses that do not violate the assumptions of either qualitative or quantitative inquiry.

Reviews / Votes
"The Need for more work on qualitative driven work in mixed methods has been apparent for some time, and who could better meet that goal than Jan Morse? This book will make an excellent starting point for anyone whose research includes a core qualitative study." -- David Morgan, Professor of Sociology at Portland State University"Morse has written a friendly (and sometimes humorous) guide through the emerging territory of qualitatively driven mixed methods research. This text provides clear explanations of mixed methods concepts and practical strategies useful for thinking about and planning a qualitatively driven mixed methods study. Morse clearly lays out a pathway for qualitatively driven mixed methods design that will enable readers to obtain complementary findings that can contribute to the advancement of knowledge and theory." -- Donna M. Mertens, Professor Emeritus at Gallaudet University
