Austin Briggs began his cartooning career in advertising as one of the original Mad Men of New York. This led to his first cartooning gig as assistant to the great Alex Raymond on the Sunday Flash Gordon series. He succeeded him on Secret Agent Corrigan and also was the first artist on the daily Flash Gordon series. He died in 1973.
