Effective Teacher Assessment

This text seeks to give the classroom teacher a clear understanding of the nature, purpose and formative value of teacher assessment. It should help develop skills and systematic procedures for making and recording teacher assessment, across a range of subjects. The approach - based on sampling and close observation within the structured framework of a "Formative Teacher Assessment Record" - has been widely used and has been found to be both effective and supportive. It also seeks to provide a firm and practical basis for school-based INSET throughout Key Stages 1 and 2.
