Michael Mitchell
Michael Mitchell studied French and German at the University of Oxford and taught German at Stirling University until 1995. One of his main research interests is modern Austrian literature and he has written a number of articles in this field. Since taking early retirement he has worked as a literary translator, his translations including books by a number of Austrian authors, amongst them Gustav Meyrink, Adolf Loos and Oskar Kokoschka. He also translated and edited The Dedalus/Ariadne Book of Austrian Fantasy and is co-editor of The Babel Guide to German Fiction in English Translation. He was awarded the 1998 Schlegel-Tieck Prize for translation from German.
