Video is the most resourceful media to capture world around us and being the prime concern of television media it has develop procedure and techniques to edit, store, index and retrieve video material. Segmenting a video into manageable units is considered to be a first step in video analysis task. These units are called shots and are considered as the elementary building block in video construction. Video shot boundary detection is one of the essential steps towards content based analysis of video data, which helps to segment a video by detecting boundaries between camera shots. A shot boundary separate two consecutive shots when one shot get transform to another shots. It thus represents the overlapping of video frames of consecutive shots. Finding shot boundaries are useful in some applications like advertisement, news, movies, TV programmes Shot boundary detection recognizes the visual discontinuities due to shot transition, to segment a video stream into its elementary content units.
