This book gives you structured, practical guidance on how to approach this vital professional skill. At the heart of this authoritative book is a set of theoretical maps to guide social workers' thinking and decision-making when undertaking assessment. Highlights of this third edition are: a- insights into the kind of high-quality collaborative assessment that is most likely to lead to effective interventions a- chapters discussing the specific challenges of assessment in children's and adult services a- careful analysis of the latest legislation and government guidance a- engaging features such as case studies, questions to challenge your perceptions, and thinking points to make you consider your own experience in the workplace. This fully revised edition of a tried-and-tested text gives social work students and practitioners alike a coherent and reliable guide to best practice.
Reviews / Votes
'An essential text for social workers, students, practice assessors and those engaged in the post-qualification process.' - Community Care 'This is a book to recommend to all social work students (at undergraduate, Master's and Post Qualifying levels) and their practice teachers. It would inform and enrich a programme of supervision, but would also enhance a more experienced practitioner's reflection and practice.' - Bernard R. Moss, Professor of Social Work Education and Spirituality, Staffordshire University 'The strength of the theory chapters are what make this book unique in the assessment in social wok literature and an important read for students... this is a welcome new edition of this text and I will continue to recommend it as essential reading for students and practitioners.' Sally Holland, Sneior Lecturer, Cardiff University, UK 'This book gives power to the elbow for students and practitioners who want to do more...this is a welcome new edition of this text...recommend[ed]...as essential reading...'
