Studies in Indian Urban Development

A comprehensive analysis of Indian urbanization. After a brief introduction to the Indian economy, it relates urbanization to economic development during the twentieth century. Several chapters analyze the size distributions of Indian cities, and related government policies, during recent decades. Other chapters analyze productivity in cities, poverty and income distribution and city characteristics in Madhya Pradesh.
