From Abbas Combe to Zennor, this "Dictionary of English Place-Names" gives the meaning and origin of over 12,000 place-names, tracing their development from earliest times to the present day. A reference for the tourist or local historian, it should also be of value to anyone interested in the names of English towns and villages. For this second edition 300 new entries have been added, many existing entries have been expanded, and the county boundary changes of 1996 have been incorporated. A glossary of common elements in English place-names and an extensive bibliography are also included.
