Warren Miller (October 15, 1924-January 24, 2018) was born in Hollywood in 1924. His Depression-era childhood in a dysfunctional home motivated him to find his own freedom in the outdoors, leading to a lifelong obsession with snow, surf and adventure. He premiered his first annual ski film in 1950, and over the next five-plus decades millions of skiers and snowboarders flocked to his films, worshiping his unique sense of humor, candor and adventure. His company produced more than 500 films in all, and Warren also wrote eight books. Warren was inducted into the U.S. Ski Hall of Fame in 1978, and lived in Big Sky, Montana, and Orcas Island, Washington, with his wife, Laurie. He died at age 93 in 2018.
