The author: (Location:Perthshire) Dr Mileham was born in Nairobi, educated at Wellington College and the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst and commissioned into the Royal Tank Regiment in 1965. He served with his regiment in Aden, Berlin, UK, Northern Ireland and with the British Army of the Rhine. He served as a regular Adjustant with the Royal Yeomanry, retiring from the Army in 1992 to become a university lecturer.
