Description
There are 20,591 primary schools in England and Wales. All are now funded according to the LEA formula, and all with over 200 pupils are already, or soon will be, subject to local management schemes. However, many LEAs are using their discretionary powers to extend LMS schemes to every school, partly to avoid a duality of organization. So many primary schools are now free to become masters of their own destinies, unfettered by LEA controls. Yet, despite many excellent local training schemes, governors can feel isolated and lost in the uncharted waters of LMS. This book, written by a practising LMS primary school headteacher, seeks to give practical guidance on how headteachers and governors can use LMS to reap benefits for their schools and the children who attend them. The author has used his own experience to suggest the kind of financial skills, marketing techniques and legal knowledge which, in his opinion, the new conditions require.
