Description
Consistent running can positively influence our mental and physical health, extend life and the quality of it, and contribute to a "good life." This book relates running to specific dimensions of well-being that support a good life. It further talks about nutrition and sleep requirements for runners, changes in our running ability with age, how running contributes to brain health, and that some important life skills can be learned through running. Many of the central ideas presented in this book are developed with the life experiences of one of the greatest distance runners in our modern time, Willian Henry ("Bill") Rodgers.
Reviews / Votes
'Inspiring, compelling, and research based. This is a wonderful book that can benefit any runner at any level, from beginner to Olympic hopeful. Starting with Bill Rodgers, one of history's greatest, as an image and example of what can truly be achieved, it reviews an impressive cross section of running research in a way that is easily understandable.'Frank ShorterGold medalist in the 1972 Olympic marathon in Munich and silver medalist in the 1976 Olympic marathon in Montreal 'A must read for those who seek to know why running blesses our lives. Bill's pioneering experience in this sport and Ray's synthesis of academic research is a beautiful and compelling case for running in our lives.'Jared WardSixth place finisher in the 2016 Olympics marathon in Rio de JaneiroMore details
