Introduction Why does outstanding teaching and learning matter? This section outlines the rationale behind the training pack and gives an overview of the individual sessions. Training Session 1 - The atmosphere of an outstanding classroom Participants look into different classrooms and explore the differing ways teachers work. They then define for themselves the direction they want to move their teaching. Training Session 2 - Planning Helps teachers refine the way they set objectives so that they become the skeleton around which they build purposeful activities that ensure pupils progress towards planned outcomes. Training Session 3 - Progression How teachers identify where pupils are starting from and how they can do this as a continuous part of their teaching through effective questioning. Training Session 4 - Progression Effective ways of moving pupils forward using the information from Session Three. Training Session 5 - Personalisation Explores a range of strategies which show personalisation need not be overly time consuming and labour intensive. Training Session 6 - Learning into practice Participants flesh out their future development plan and produce their own outstanding lesson descriptors. Includes an option to involve teachers in whole school planning of teaching and learning. Evaluation A customisable form is provided to support users in evaluating the impact of the training. Guidance is given in every session about next steps for development and how to measure the outcomes of the training.
