Though merely thumbing through this will induce the heebie-jeebies, this could be the most useful and helpful book of the decade; when the going gets tough, get out this book! * Wooden Boat * What would you do if your engine failed while entering a harbor? British author Mellor's book is as much about preventing trouble as it is about dealing with it when it happens and keeping small problems from becoming big ones. Mellor covers the subject for both sailboats and powerboats, examining engines, electronics, rigging and other systems with the goad of preventative maintenance. But the author also goes into emergency procedures, based on is own personal experiences. Chapters cover what to do when caught in a gale, when shrouded by fog, when faced with a broken steering system or a dismasting. Crew morale, which can be a determining factor in an emergency, is also discussed.
