Description
Sunny and his family have recently moved to a new country in this evocative story about adjusting to life in a new place. His dad is struggling to see their new house as home, and Sunny can tell that he is yearning for his old life, where collared doves cooed in the soft morning light and swallows swooped in the sunset. So Sunny comes up with a plan to help his dad find joy in his new home.

*** Longlisted for the The Diverse Book Awards 2024 *** *** Shortlisted for the Leicester Schools' Year 2 Book Award 2024 *** "A lovely gentle story about a bond between a father and son." * Children's Books Ireland * "A moving and evocative story with gentle loving illustrations by Nabila Adani this book is a true delight." * Louise Ellis-Barrett, Armadillo * "Wendy Meddour's story is written with great sensitivity. Presenting what for many immigrant families is a challenging time, she shows how with love, support, kindness and nature's healing power, the process of adjustment to a different life can begin. The richness and beauty of the natural world - real and remembered - is elegantly captured in Nabila Adani's misty illustrations and you can read the changing emotions in her portrayal of the two main characters." * Jill Bennett, Red Reading Hub * "Wendy Meddour's tender story is beautifully realised by Nabila Adani's emotionally astute pictures with bright blasts of colour and dense meaningful tones." * Bookwagon * "An evocative and moving story." * LoveReading4Kids * "With its sensitive exploration of moving to a new country and the meaning of home, this evocative, illustrated story is perfectly pitched for the youngest readers." * Pam Norfolk, Lancashire Post * "...the over-riding message is one of great love, empathy and sensitivity to the feelings of others, and a desire through that love to find something that helps." * Liz Broad, Just Imagine *More details
