At-Risk Youth

Part 1 At-risk children and youth - the ecology of problems: an introduction to at-risk issues - the tree; environmental/societal factors that contribute to risk; family problems of at-risk children and youth; school issues that relate to at-risk children and youth; individual characteristics of high-risk and low-risk children and youth. Part 2 At-risk categories: school drop-outs: substance use and addiction; teenage pregnancy and risky sexual behaviour; delinquency and problems of violence; youth suicide. Part 3 Prevention, intervention and treatment approaches: a prevention/early intervention/treatment framework and other environmental considerations; core components of programmes for prevention and early intervention; child and peer interventions; family interventions; educational interventions; legal issues.
