Description
This volume provides an overview of fuzzy logic and outlines how it can be applied to real-world problems in industry and business. Four main concepts of fuzziness are covered: fuzzy logic, the mathematical basis of fuzziness; fuzzy systems, used for estimation and process control; fuzzy decision-making, the language-oriented fuzzy system used in decision-making; and fuzzy cognitive maps, generalized fuzzy feedback used to improve and refine future decision-making. The book focuses on how these concepts can be put to use in a practical way, and includes illustrative programs on an accompanying disk to provide hands-on experience in fuzzy applications. Applications covered include, automobile systems, "smart houses", stock trading, power plant process control, workstation design, medicine and the NASA space station. Modelling scenarios range from ozone depletion to illegal immigrant control.
