Description
This is a guide to Germany, covering the whole country, east and west. The first part of the book examines western Germany and its success in post-war Europe. Seen as safe and materialistic, it is also home to the continent's largest and most influential peace and ecology movements. Its landscape ranges from the majestic Bavarian Alps to the restored Hanseatic cities of the north. Until the revolution of 1989, travel within much of eastern Germany presented problems for Westerners. Now many places are readily accessible at low prices. The second part of the guide describes the eastern region. The guide contains a price-code system for hotels and for Germany's well-developed youth hostel network. Bars and clubs are covered with an emphasis on youth culture. A Black Forest section is included.
