Soils and Land-Use Issues in the Mackenzie Hill Country

Describing the soils and soil distribution of the Mackenzie hill country of New Zealand, this book also addresses nutrient deficiencies, whether pastoral land is sustainable, and the area's potential for forestry. Thirty-nine soils are identified and grouped into land systems, and soil-landscape models for land below 1500m altitude show which soils are found on particular landscape areas. Factsheets provide an overview of the main characteristics of each soil, with colour photographs of a soil profile and typical landscape. Included are descriptions of the soil, extensive information on its chemical and physical properties, and details of land use.
