Mary Maxwell earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Emmanuel College, Boston, and a Master of Liberal Arts, specializing in the History of Ideas, from Johns Hopkins University. Her involvement with biology and evolutionary studies came later and was grafted onto an interest in philosophy-hence the style of this book. The author lives in South Australia.
