This is an overview of 40 job and career information centers operated by public libraries that Durrance (Serving Job Seekers and Career Changers, Professional Reading, LJ 7/93) studied on behalf of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which has funded many attempts to enhance how librarians respond to job and career information requests. Having taught and written about community information services for the last 20 years, Durrance is one of the few professional library educators in the country with the background necessary to have conducted such a study. The strength of her work lies in the practical advice she offers on how to plan, organize, and deliver enhanced career information. Durrance hits at the heart of the matter in her discussions on really learning how to deliver need-based reference work.
