Popular and Practical Science of Medieval England

A remarkable collection of Middle English texts dealing with astrology, fortune telling, medicine, horticulture and marine navigation -popular and practical scientific matters as they were perceived in the middle ages. The texts have been edited by international scholars and nine of the chapters present works hitherto unpublished. The remaining three offer superior versions of previously published edited texts.
Each of the texts is prefaced by an introduction describing its general scientific and cultural context. Explanatory notes, illustrations and, where appropriate, glosses, are included. There is also a selective glossary for all twelve texts.
This volume spans arange of disciplines and will be indispensable to scholars of medieval studies, history of science, early English language and literature, manuscripts, technical prose and popular culture.
