Modern Novels

An introductory chapter on the anatomy of a novel deals with construction, characters, plots and convention, and is followed by seven main extracts from novels which include Conrad's "Heart of Darkness", Lawrence's "Women in Love", Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" and Walker's "The Colour Purple".
