Description
The DDR Museum in the heart of Berlin has followed a special path since it opened in 2006. The exhibition tells about the reality of life of the people who lived in this country. She does this without sugarcoating and without demonizing. This book also attempts to do this. It wants to be more than a museum catalog, namely a kind of travel guide through the maze of conflicting memories.
Here the current state of research and public debates about the GDR is presented in an understandable form and offers food for thought for further study the past and the future of our society.
Divided into ten subject areas, the book describes the various aspects of life in the GDR in short, pointed and richly illustrated articles. 21 "special objects" from the permanent exhibition are presented and provide a common thread through the DDR Museum's exhibition. The publication is suitable for preparing a trip to Berlin, but is also useful for visitors who want to deepen their knowledge after walking through the exhibition.
