Jan Mark was one of the most distinguished authors of books for young people. She was twice awarded the Carnegie Medal and also won the Penguin Guardian Award, the Observer Teenage Fiction Prize and the Angel Award for Fiction. Her many titles include Thunder and Lightnings, Lady Long Legs and The Snow Maze. The Museum Book, Jan's last completed work, was published by Walker Books in 2007.
Charlotte Voake studied art history at the University of London. She worked for a short time at the Bluecoat Gallery in Liverpool and illustrated her first children's book while still at university. She has illustrated many books for other authors, as well as producing her own picture books, among them Ginger (1997) and Pizza Kittens (2002). The former won a Nestle Smarties Book Prize (Gold Award) and the latter a Nestle Smarties Book (Silver Award). Charlotte lives near Woking, Surrey.
