Description
This book concerns the design of power magnet devices including inductors, transformers, electromagnets, and rotating electric machinery. It opens with a discussion of evolutionary computing based optimization before moving on to set for the magnetic analysis techniques useful to the design of all the devices. Further chapters focus on elementary inductor design, force and torque production, and the design of an electromagnet (a solenoid). This is followed by discussions on transformer design and conductor losses. The author revisits the simple inductor design described earlier with the inclusion of losses in the context of a buck converter. Later chapters explain and implement topics including thermal analysis in the design of three-phase inductors and the calculation of capacitance in the design of common mode inductors. The book closes with rotating electric machinery which is considered featuring the design of a permanent magnet ac machine.
